Temporal sensitivity and perceived timing in unimodal and crossmodal isochronous sequences

Abstract

This study examines how sensory modality, sequence continuity, and across-trial context affect temporal judgements in isochronous sequences. Participants judged whether the final event in auditory and visual sequences occurred earlier or later than expected, with the final event either retaining or switching modality. Temporal sensitivity was better for auditory and modality-consistent sequences, whereas crossmodal endings produced context-dependent shifts in perceived timing, supporting a distinction between temporal sensitivity and perceptual bias.
